We have been reading " To kill a mockingbird " by Harper Lee in our 8th grade English class. Took us a month! Maybe even two. What I found interesting was that such a detailed novel was put into only 2 hours. It was a good choice having the author come and organize everything. Even being able to speak to the characters. The movie had a nice flow to it. It didn't include everything in the story, but it managed to give you an idea about it. It included main plot points of the story such as Tom's case. The characters were outstanding! They suited their role very much. The Dill character was just as I had imagined him. I admit I enjoyed the show even though we could only watch half of it. I recommend reading the book before watching the movie. You appreciate books more after that.

The anticipation of the audience grew at the speed of light. The king had gotten up out of his
seat for the first time. Back hunched as his fingertips left the gold throne. He peered down at
the center of the arena. The princess grinned as she watched. The young lover walked slowly
towards the intimidating door. Although, he was very convinced that the princess had given him
the right door to pick and that he would be safe. The door chosen swung roughly being that it
was rusted. Gasps came from all directions. Even the king had placed his hands on his mouth.
Everyone's eyes were filled with shock. They all watched in terror. It was silent for a few
moments as the people were trying to wrapped their head around what they had just
witnessed. The silence was broken when the king yelled furiously, " WHO DID THIS?!? " The
crowd exchanged glances and shrugged. The lady behind the door laid stone dead. Pale skin
that looked like a carcass of a zebra after a pride had finished it. She was brutally and
mercilessly beaten. Almost like it was an old hateful enemy finishing what they had started. The
king flared his nostrils, breathed heavily ,and put his hand on his head as he paced the aerial viewing ground. He beat his fist on the edge. " The person who committed this act is a savage
and should pay their price! " The princess confidently stood and agreed. She also included that
the person must have been in love because love makes people do CRAZY things. Everyone
began to leave and the king watched with confusion. The order that he loved so was broken
that day. The lover was released and the princess had sheltered herself from the world.
Nothing would ever be the same.

What I learned it that everything happens for a reason. I'm Christian and I'll admit that church isn't really my thing. It was all so boring to me until one paster had something to say that caught my interests. How gods plan is bigger than we thought! Bigger than we could ever imagine. It's all a show and we all have our own role. We are united in Gods kingdom. Chosen, forgiven adopted, before time to be in gods plan. God is with you not against you. If you don't play your role, we all go down and suffer. No one can play your role. No one but you! You are so unique! There are no missing pieces. Like those really hard machines to put together. If your missing a piece it won't work. Just like gods plan can't work without all of us. If you do your part you build up the body. If you don't you tear it down. The audience is the angels in heaven. Almost like a dramatic soap opera as I put down in my notes. God sent Jesus, then they killed him. The angels thought," What a horrible way to end the show." Even the Angels didn't realize how large his plan is. He opened their eyes to a greater plan after Jesus came back to life. So the question is, are you playing your part? If you think so, GREAT! If you don't think so, an easy way to build a relationship with god is by starting with a honest conversation. Be serious about it. Do not ask for your will if you aren't ready to hear it. He won't waste his time telling you your will if you won't forget the will you have created for yourself. The fact of the matter is you don't want to hear his will if it doesn't benefit YOUR OWN PLAN. We ask for his will wanting to hear our own will therefore not actually listening to what he has to say. Gods will might not match your will . I thought about this a great deal. There isn't anything I rather do than sing. I can not ask god for my will if I am not ready to put aside my own. At some point in your life, you have so say, " Tell me and I will listen. Show me and I will follow even if it isn't my will."
I thought about all this in the morning after waking up, very upset knowing my cat has been lost for a few weeks. Thinking that it wasn't my fault. Everything really does happen for a reason. In this case i don't know what the reasoning was, but that's ok. We have to trust that gods plan is amazing and he has our back no matter what.

Discuss the theme of prejudice, using a piece of literature that you have read

"Irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular social group, such as a race or the adherents of a religion."
The novel," To Kill A Mocking Bird " by Harper Lee take place in 1933 to 1935, during the Great Depression. The novel was published in 1960. The hierarchy back then was
Whites- poor whites- white trash- black- mixed races
During this time period, white people were racist towards African Americans. What is racism?
According to the legal definition it means
n. noun
The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
TKAM discusses the theme of prejudice by explaining blacks as a targeted/ hated social group.
Why did I write this piece?
It is an assignment for our 8th grade ela class! You choose a prompt from a list given from the teacher. http://www.carolinagunter.com/writing-prompts.html
You pick any prompt and base it off of anything that we have read in class. No matter how long it has been. We are reading TKAM and I thought it was a really good example of prejudice!

Behind Closed doors
What's wrong?
Are you feeling ok?
I'm a candle,
Burning out slowly,
My light dying.
I sit in silence;
behind closed doors.
Although it is never entirely silent.
Their screams echo in my head.
My thoughts float around in my head.
Like trash in the ocean,
being swallowed by a wave and reappearing.
I sit and think;
behind closed doors.
Almost trapped in my thoughts,
as my lifeless body lays on my bed.
She purrs,
gentle and comforting.
Behind closed doors;
I am not okay;
It is not the weather nor is it the people who stand outside;
Behind the closed doors.

Today we watched a Ted Talk about invisibility. What is invisibility? Invisibility is not being able to see something with a naked eye.
It was a surprising how he explained that some people felt "invisible." Stating that it might be considered an emotion rather than just being the unseen. Feeling invisible, almost as if that person was unseen. Therefore, being ignored by the people that surround them in their daily lives. Feelings aren't something we can exactly see but we can identify how someone feels by their facial expression. Example, when someone frowns and you see a tear run down their cheek. That is obviously an expression of sadness. Why can we read someone one's emotions according to their facial expressions? Why do we have facial expressions?
"In all my previous articles about face reading I talked about the connection between facial features and personality. In those articles i explained how you can determine many of the famous personality traits by just looking at someone's face.
In this series i am going to talk about a totally different skill which is recognizing a person's emotions through his face. But why would you need to learn such a skill? Don't we all have a built in ability to detect the emotions of others?
While our minds already have the capability to detect those who experience intense emotions still most of us lack the ability to detect subtle emotional changes or ones that aren't that intense.
I am sure every human being in the world can detect a sad face but what about a slightly sad face for a person who is about to become really sad in the next few minutes?
Here is where this new skill comes in handy. By learning how to notice the subtle changes that happen in the face you won't just be able to read people's emotions but you will also be able to detect the slightest change in emotions way earlier before they become intense."

What is perfection according to media??
Usually includes being skinny enough to show your bones, small waist, big hips, thigh gap and many other unrealistic standards. On top of these standards that has every girl around the world doubting herself, magazine editors still include tons of makeup and photoshop. Media strives to make the "perfect" girl. Is there such thing? Can someone be perfect?
According to the bible, no one is perfect other than God.
Psalm 18:30 "This God--his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him."

God and his ways are the definition of perfection.
Therefore leaving perfection as an untouched goal and at the end it all comes down to beauty. Beauty seems to play a big role in creating the perfect girl. Now I've come to the question of ,what makes someone beautiful? I don't think you have to be skinny, curvy or anything implied on magazines. Beauty and appearance have nothing to do with each other in my opinion because at the end your beauty will fade. Then what are you left with if you relied on your looks. People that don't or can't rely on their looks have to be geniunly nice unless they don't care about their social life. Confidence makes someone truly beautiful. Beauty is how you carry yourself rather than looks in my opinion. Smiling with you head up high, back straight, eyes wide, and properly cared hygiene. Someone well put together is appealing to the eye no matter your appearance. So just smile and be confident because no one is ugly! You might think you are ugly but there is someone out there that thinks no one is as stunning as you are no matter what. There is only one you so make it the bes

PEACE MAKER
WHO DO I THINK IS A PEACE MAKER??
Mother Teresa was a peacemaker. Born on August 26, 1910 and died on September 5,1997.
"Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, now known as Mother Teresa, was the third and final child born to
her Albanian Catholic parents, Nikola and Dranafile Bojaxhiu, in the city of Skopje Nikola was
a self-made, successful businessman and Dranafile stayed home to take care of the children
When Mother Teresa was about eight years old, her father died unexpectedly. The Bojaxhiu
family was devastated. After a period of intense grief, Dranafile, suddenly a single mother of
three children, sold textiles and hand-made embroidery to bring in some income.
Who Was Mother Teresa?
Mother Teresa was an amazing lady! So thoughtful and made a change. She gave her life
meaning in this fallen world. She still isn't forgotten and I don't think she will be forgotten. Can
you imagine?? Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Catholic order of nuns
dedicated to helping the poor. Begun in Calcutta, India, the Missionaries of Charity grew to help
the poor, the dying, orphans, lepers, and AIDS sufferers in over a hundred countries. Mother
Teresa's selfless effort to help those in need has caused many to regard her as a model
humanitarian." That is why she is a peacemaker. She took care of people and they settled for
the most part. Therefore bringing peace into their lives.
